Serial tipster @evleaks on Sunday published a photo of the rumored HTC One Mini 2, which is expected to come in three colors, but without its big brother's depth-sensing camera.
The image hit the Web a week after Swedish carrier Telia released a list of HD Voice-enabled phones—including the "M8 mini."
Based on evleaks's tweet, HTC will offer the miniature mobile in silver, gold, and gunmetal. The original HTC One Mini is available only in silver.
If the rumors are true, this device also has its predecessor beat in size and camera resolution. Evleaks this weekend pointed to a February tweet, in which he revealed specs for the Android KitKat 4.4-based Mini 2, which featured a 1.4GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage plus microSD card slot, all packed into a 4.5-inch screen with 720p display.
Judging by the leaked photo, however, this new version will not include the HTC One M8's depth-sensing Duo Camera, which lets the One perform after-the-fact, Lytro-like focus tricks.
The original HTC One Mini, meanwhile, sports a 4.3-inch display and runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor. There's a 4-megapixel rear and 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera—a measly offering compared to the new handset's rumored 13-megapixel rear cam and 5-megapixel front shooter.
As CNET pointed out, HTC looks to be ditching the UltraPixel tech used in its first One Mini, in favor of the same camera found on the recently announced Desire 816.
HTC declined to comment on the rumors.
There is no word on when the mini-me smartphone will be released, or whether it will come with the same $100 price tag as the HTC One Mini.
