Looking for a way to avoid that summertime sadness? Pop open a can of Diet Mountain Dew and get ready to enjoy Lana Del Rey's newest ride. The "Young And Beautiful" singer tweeted Saturday morning that she will be starring in Tropico, a short film directed by music video director Anthony Mandler. The film will feature male model Shaun Ross, who also appeared in a previously released video for Del Rey's song "Bel Air," which has now been removed from her YouTube channel.
The 30-minute film is described on the poster as "a tale of redemption told to the music of Body Electric God's and Monster's Bel Air," three songs off her Paradise album. Does this suggest that Tropico is a glorified, longer form of a music video? Perhaps, as the Grammy-nominated Mandler is credited with music videos for Del Rey, Rihanna, Jay Z, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift, among several other artists. In addition to his music video credentials, Mandler has directed six short films, one of which lead to a Grammy nomination.
The singer formerly known as Elizabeth Grant must have a "Burning Desire" to keep the project in the family, as she appointed her sister, Chuck Grant, as the chief photographer on the project. But when you're living for the fame, the possibilities are endless. What's next... a video game?
